£50 per person
Book NowVenture through the Otter Valley to our house at THE PIG-at Combe for an afternoon wandering through our walled Kitchen Garden and learning about our history, homegrown produce and how our PIG Kitchen Garden came to be in the Devonshire hills.
You’ll be welcomed in, THE PIG way, with a hot drink in our outdoor, rustic retreat, The Folly, secluded away from the hustle and bustle of the main house, where you can settle in and get to know your fellow garden enthusiasts. Our PIG Head Kitchen Gardener, Ollie Hutson, and THE PIG-at Combe’s Head Kitchen Gardener, Pete Harris, will then guide you to our Kitchen Garden for a private, in-depth tour around our grounds.
Ollie has been heading up THE PIG Kitchen Gardens since day one and together, he and Pete will share insider stories of how the team came to plan and plant the three walled gardens here at THE PIG-at Combe. You’ll discover the original features and plants we inherited with our 16th century house, the native produce you’ll only be able to find here at our patch in Devon and, of course, you’re always welcome to ask your own questions and get some growing tips and tricks for your own outdoor space at home! We’ll take our time and delve into our veg beds in much greater depth and detail than our daily Kitchen Garden tours, where you’ll get to taste some of the fresh pickings growing along the way.
Afterwards, you’ll head back to The Folly, where you’ll dig into a selection of plentiful PIG plates of smoked meats and fresh, hearty garden salads that you won’t be able to find on our restaurant menu, and sip on some homemade pink PIG lemonade with endless views across the rolling countryside.
To top of the afternoon, you’ll be joined by English gardener, TV presenter and author, Toby Buckland for an inspiring and helpful conversation on sustainable gardening to help you bring a piece of THE PIG’s ethos to your patch at home.
More about our friends from the National Garden Scheme
Here at THE PIG’s, we are all about giving back to our local community and the patch we call home, so when our friends from The National Garden Scheme wanted to partner up to offer bespoke Kitchen Garden gatherings, we just had to get on board.
The National Garden Scheme is all about giving the local community unique access to over 3,500 exceptional private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, to raise money for charities and organisations. In addition, they open breath taking gardens to support everyone’s physical and mental health – spending some time outdoors in the midst of our produce always makes us feel better that’s for sure!
Through admission fees, plus the many teas and cakes they sell, they raise impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities. So far, they have managed to donate over £67million and in 2022, they made an annual donation of £3.11million. Some of their core charities and organisation include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.
