Book NowHead round to our house by the sea in Cornwall for an afternoon fully immersing yourself in our walled Kitchen Garden at THE PIG-at Harlyn Bay.
You’ll be warmly welcomed in, THE PIG way, with a hot drink while you get to know your fellow garden enthusiasts, before heading over for a private tour of our Kitchen Garden with our Head Kitchen Gardener, Ollie Hutson, and THE PIG-at Harlyn Bay’s Head Kitchen Gardener, Alex Lanteigne.
Ollie has been heading up THE PIG Kitchen Gardens since day one and will share insider stories of how the team came to plan the Kitchen Garden here at Harlyn. Alex will help you discover the native plants you’ll only be able to find in our patch in Cornwall and, of course, you’re always welcome to ask your own questions and get some growing tips and tricks for your own outdoor space at home! We’ll take our time and dig into our veg beds in much greater depth and detail than our daily Kitchen Garden tours, where you’ll get to taste some of the fresh pickings growing in our patches and climbing in our Victorian glass greenhouse along the way.
You’ll then walk across to our secluded outdoor courtyard, just a stone’s throw from the Kitchen Garden, and away from the hustle and bustle of the restaurant, to meet our PIG Group Bar Manager, Sam Vesey. Sam will be hosting a non-alcoholic cocktail masterclass using Pentire – our Cornish local, non-alcoholic spirit partner across THE PIGs, whose bottles you’ll always find on our bar shelves.
As he shakes, stirs and muddles two of our free-spirited tipples for you to try and taste, Sam will demonstrate how (and why) everything at THE PIGs is led by the fresh, seasonal produce you’ll have seen growing in the Kitchen Garden. To top off the afternoon, you’ll dig into a plentiful PIG BBQ and garden salad buffet for lunch, filled with vibrant, hearty and moreish sharing dishes that you won’t find on our restaurant menu. Celebrate the best of our homegrown goodies while you sit back, relax and enjoy the coastal view!
More about our friends from the National Garden Scheme
Here at THE PIG’s, we are all about giving back to our local community and the patch we call home, so when our friends from The National Garden Scheme wanted to partner up to offer bespoke Kitchen Garden gatherings, we just had to get on board.
The National Garden Scheme is all about giving the local community unique access to over 3,500 exceptional private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, to raise money for charities and organisations. In addition, they open breath taking gardens to support everyone’s physical and mental health – spending some time outdoors in the midst of our produce always makes us feel better that’s for sure!
Through admission fees, plus the many teas and cakes they sell, they raise impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities. So far, they have managed to donate over £67million and in 2022, they made an annual donation of £3.11million. Some of their core charities and organisation include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.
